Ms. Shawn joined the teaching team at MDE School in 2017. Before that, she taught general and special education students for over twenty years at area schools. Ms. Shawn holds a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development and is currently pursuing a certification in child life.
Ms. Shawn says teaching special needs children is in her heart. “I have a heart for teaching special needs children. It is gratifying to equip them with tools that support their academic journey and positively impact their lives. I view myself as an advocate for my students. Serving a population that many people don’t understand has enabled me to see the world through a different set of eyes which has changed my heart in ways I never thought it would.” Ms. Shawn said.
She continued, “I hope to inspire my students to be engaged in learning, become independent, and exceed their goals.”
Ms. Shawn enjoys Latin dancing and watching movies in her free time. She is a massive fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
